A day to remember
Yesterday's Andover Adventure deserves it own blog. I purchased a baby monitor when we arrived here, as I could not hear Mom when she was in her bed and we were in our bedroom, or down stairs..........
Thursday, January 28 started at 3 am. I woke up when I heard the monitor. Mom was crying and begging to go home. I went to her bedside, to try to calm her, but it almost impossible to understand what she was saying, and the fear in her voice was awful. I sat on the side of the bed and she didn't know who I was. She said "you're new to this family aren't you?" I slowly began to talk quietly to her and I told her I was her first born child and I was here to take care of her . It took a long time to calm her down. And so much she said was so sad. I am not a stranger to people with dementia, but this was heartbreaking. Slowly rubbing her back, she finally went back to sleep.
When I heard her moving around about 10 am I went up to see how she was doing after such a horrible night. I was stunned. She had her clothes laid out because she said she had a hair appointment today. I was sure I was going to have to cancel the appointment. Wow!!! It would be the first time in about a year since she left the house! My brother Will had tried many times to get her to go for a hair cut but to no avail. Getting her into the car was a real challenge but we did it. Then came the "you have to wear a mask" but got her to obey!! 2 hours later and she looked like the Mom we all know. Her whole being changed at that point. She was back to her old self. She joked, laughed and said she wanted a glass of wine when we got home. (So now you know who I take after) I know it won't last forever, but every once in a while you know that you have done the right thing in your life!!
The picture you sent showed how beautiful she really is. Thank you!
